As you know, the helmets were placed on shipping hold in order to be fully inspected by an independent third party for potential quality issues. Based on our inspection results, we regret to inform you that the units did not pass inspection.To ensure that we only deliver high quality products to our customers, we have decided that our remaining inventory of Special Ops, Shock Troop, and Clone Trooper helmets are not sellable. You know, we have it reall good here in the good ol' U.S of A when it comes to exclusives and collectibles but once in a while a foreign exclusive comes along and it makes you envious of collectors on the other side of the planet. Like, take for instance this Blackhole Stormtrooper Mini Bust limited to 1,000 pieces exclusive to the land of the rising sun, Japan. This exclusive is going to be sold on May 5th 2006 at Japanese retailer Blister. A big thanks to our good friends over at Rebelscum.com for the story and picture!

Update - Gentle Giant has updated their blog with more info on the upcoming Japan visit. The Blackhole Stormtrooper will be limted 1,000 pieces and comes with multiple arms just like the regualr release. 500 will be sold at the event and 500 are going to collectors here in the U.S., although it's anybody's guess as to where it will show up for sale. The black chrome full size Darth Vader with light up Saber will also make an appearance at the event. 1,000 pieces will be available at the Japan event and the the rest will up for grabs after the pre-sells that were purchased by collectors at conventions last year are filled.

An open apology and Toy Fair 2006
Hi, all...It's been far too long since I (or anyone else) posted on this blog, and I want to openly apologize to all of our fans, collectors, retailers, and anyone else who comes to visit it or is interested in Gentle Giant's products. On behalf of Gentle Giant, I'm sorry. When we started this blog, it was our absolute intent for it to be a timely communication tool for getting information across to you and getting feedback back from you. Due to a variety of circumstances involving everything from Toy Fair preparation to flu season, we failed in this. I'm not trying to offer excuses - there is no excuse - but I hope you all forgive us and give us another chance to make this work. We really think that this is an important tool, and it's essential for you to have one place where you can be sure your voice is heard and the information you will be getting is legitimate. We'll work on it and make every effort to improve this blog for you.So, on with the news...Later this week, we'll be updating our site with most of the "official" information from Toy Fair, though most of it has already been covered on a lot of press sites. It's been a very exciting show, and we're all looking forward to the rest of 2006 as much as many of you.Some things have come up in the various forums and on this blog, so I thought I'd take a sec:

Star Wars Animated maquettes-It seems like most people like this line as much as I do! It's great to have the opportunity to do something a littel different that nobody has done before. The Darth Vader is still pretty rough, but we felt like it was good enough to let people see it. The bases will be similar to the Clone Wars maquettes so that the two collections can be displayed together (and the SWA will be in the same scale for the same reason). The Boba, Leia, and Vader are the first three - more to come (I hope)!

Clone Wars maquettes-We're taking a break from this line to do the SWA, but we have a lot of characters we'd still like to do, and a lot of ones that have been requested from our fans. Because SWA is so similar, we don't want people to have to choose between the two lines, but be able to collect them both, so we won't be doing them simultaneously. We'll probably wind up going back and forth or something.

Star Wars mini busts-There were neither red nor blue Royal Guard mini busts on display at Toy Fair. I have no idea where this rumor started, but since our showroom wasn't open to the press on the day this rumor got out, it was obviously started by someone who was sticking their nose where it didn't belong, trying to obtain advance information, and passing on incorrect information in an effort to "scoop" everyone else. My guess is that they saw the red Royal Guard statue and the blue "holographic" Qui-Gon mini bust from a distance.

Star Wars statues-Obi-Wan in Clone Trooper Armor isn't done yet - really rough. It's one of those items (along with the Mos Eisley Cantina bookends) that people were asked not to photograph from close-up because the current prototypes are nowhere near the level of quality we expect from ourselves. Unfortunately, not everyone respects our wishes, images get out, and our fans are the ones who are misled. We wanted to show it because we like it, though, so we were willing to take that risk.

When I started this weblog my true intentions were to satisfy myself by creating a website the way I envisioned about my collecting habits and what started as an expiriment for me, has now turned into a full fleged obsession! Second, to fulfill a goal of mine- to run a classy Star Wars themed blog with daily updates on higher end Star Wars collectibles. No toys, just products from Gentle Giant Studios, Sideshow Collectibles, Master Replicas, Attakus, Code 3 Collectibles, and Kotobukia. So if you happen to stumble across this blog please fell free to leave a message and make a new friend! I'm working on getting a full fledged site going soon with message boards and the whole nine yards but till then, let's begin shall we?
